Clear Advantage Screen Field ComplaintJul 04, 2012
In March of 2011 I screened in a porch at my Black Mountain, NC home and was perusaded by my local building supply store to use the New York Wire, Clear Advantage Screen. While I was initially very pleased, by September I began to notice holes forming in several sections. These ranged from 1/16" to 1/4" in diameter.
I contacted the local building supply store and their representative came out and inspected the problem areas. They offered to provide replacement material, however the screen material amounted to apporximately 1/3 of my costs and I felt I should be reimbursed for expenses associated with removing the defective material and reinstallation of new screen.
In October 2011, I contacted the manufacturer, Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics America, Inc., and requested relief in the amount of approximately $700.00. Following exchange of several letters, they shipped me replacement material and declined any further assistance.
I did not feel that I could trust their product and replaced their screen with aluminum wire. I could never determine the root cause for the holes. No one smokes on our porch, so we ruled out cigarette burns. There are not any branches from trees or bushes in close proximity, so we ruled out punctures. If there had been any type of sharpe object impact, we would have expected to see tearing or loose strands, and we did not see any evidence of that. It appeared like someone had dripped an acid on the screen.
Our porch is elevated 12' above the ground so scaffolding is required for demolation and installation of new material and we did not want to risk any further repairs.
While the Saint-Gobains Customer Service representative was responsive and courteous, I did not feel that their efforts to satisfy my claim were adequate.

this is a low quality no-see-um screenAug 07, 2013

easily tears while re-screening. ended up recycling. waste of money. would recommend purchasing locally where you can actually see the product before you buy it.

So Far - Sooooo GoodJul 29, 2013

It took me a while to get all the prep work done for replacing the old screen on my porch with this new screen, but it's finally up. The screen is just as advertised - Clear Advantage. When the sun hits it at certain angles you can see the screen, but 90% of the time it is transparent. It is so much clearer than my old stuff. It installed well and seems sturdy - only been up about a week. I almost gave the screen a 4 star rating for one reason. I was putting up 4', 6', and 10' strips and as I got near the end of the 100 foot roll, there was a "crimp" across the wire. It was positioned so that I could not use the strip, and I had to run to a local building supply store to get enough screen to finish my job. But given all the good features of the product, I decided to give it a 5.
